Startup: Nintendo Wii Violates Our Patents

A startup has taken legal action against Nintendo Co. for allegedly violating patents with its hugely popular Wii videogame system.
The startup, Hillcrest Laboratories Inc. of Rockville, Md., on Wednesday filed a complaint against Japan's Nintendo with the U.S. International Trade Commission, alleging that the Wii's motion-sensing controller infringes on three Hillcrest patents related to the technology.
The complaint alleges the Wii also violates a fourth Hillcrest patent for graphical interfaces that are displayed on television screens.
Hillcrest's ITC complaint seeks a ban on the importation of Wii consoles into the U.S. The complaint also says Hillcrest intends to file a lawsuit against Nintendo making similar allegations in U.S. district court in Maryland.
A spokesman for Nintendo said he wasn't aware of the complaint and didn't immediately have a comment.
