Brooke Burke's Ex-Husband: 'I Taught Her to Dance'

Thursday, December 04, 2008

Some ex-spouses speak only through a legal mediator. Others sit in the studio audience with their kids and cheer on their success.

That was the case for "Dancing With the Stars" winner Brooke Burke as she claimed the title for season seven of the hit show.

Her ex-husband, Dr. Garth Fisher, the Hollywood plastic surgeon who starred on "Extreme Makeover," and their two kids, Neriah and Sierra Sky, were there cheering her on during her Ginger Rogers moment.

“I thought it was great. She deserved to win,” Dr. Fisher told Foxnews.com of his ex-wife, with whom he split in 2006 after five years of marriage.

Funny thing is Burke, 37, wasn’t always Little Miss Twinkle toes. Dr. Fisher says she was more of a wall flower, and he finds the transformation remarkable. “She never really liked to dance before. With me she just did the Bobblehead dance," he said, adding, “I am the one who taught her how to dance, usually on Friday and Saturday nights. I taught her to dance on coffee tables! Just kidding!”

Every week during "Dancing With the Stars," Dr. Fisher and his girls would tune into watch Burke cha cha cha into the finals. “Every night we’d watch and the girls put in their votes. This was a really happy and exciting time for them,” said Dr. Fisher.

Burke is now engaged to former "Baywatch" hunk David Charvet, with whom she has two children. On "Dancing With the Stars," her winning dance partner was Derek Hough.
