SAN DIEGO —  San Diego Padres second baseman David Eckstein left Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers with a strained right hamstring and is listed as day to day.

Eckstein pulled up lame while running out a groundball in the 12th inning of San Diego's 7-6 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 13 innings.

Eckstein pulled up as he hit the bag after grounding out to third base. He was replaced by rookie catcher Jose Lobaton, who was called up from Triple-A Portland on Sunday and made his major league debut.

Lobaton had never played any other position than catcher in his eight-year minor league career.
